x-post [10 Aug 2006|04:19pm]

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get your hands on Koechlin's "Pieces" Op. 179 (oboe/d'am/eh & pno) for less than $120 at TrevCo or $100 from the publisher? Maybe a library? "Educational" legal photocopies?

Please :)

Wish us luck! [28 Oct 2005|04:04pm]

[ mood | good ]

Tomorrow is the PNMB's last qualifying show!! Wish us luck! We did really well at the last competition but got a crappy score because the judges were really tough. I just hope we can do well enough to make it in states. We're so close. Well, we're in 12th, but the scores aren't terribly far apart. Any other Michigan bands who're competing in MCBA going to the Reeths-Puffer show tomorrow? If so we'll see you there! Good luck to all bands competing in any competitions tomorrow!

I need some moral support!

Band Camp [04 Aug 2005|07:28pm]

[ mood | geeky ]

These past two days have been pre-band camp where we teach the freshmen how to march and such. It's been really fun. I love my section. We have a new sophomore, two freshmen, and two eighth graders who are in it this year. The only other vet in our section (besides me) is another sophomore. So our oldest grade is sophomores. lol. Anyway, tomorrow is a pre-camp rehearsal for the full band and all next week is band camp!!!!!!! SO FUN!!!!!! I'm super excited. WOO BAND!!!! lol. I'm a major geek. :-)

hey everyone, i'm new to this community so i'm just saying hi and introducing myself

my name is zach, and i'm a flute performance major at crane school of music, i'll be going into my sophomore year this fall.

i'm considering looking into a woodwind performance degree for grad school; i really enjoy playing woodwinds, and i like to do pit orchestras because it gives me a chance to play a bunch of them. the last pit i did i played flute, piccolo, clarinet, and soprano sax - and the pit before that i played flute, piccolo, clarinet, oboe, and alto sax.

it's nice to be in a group of people who love the same instruments as me! :)

Perfect Pitch [01 Jul 2005|08:25am]

Hi Guys,
I thought maybe you'd be interested in joining this, since this is a musician's community. I hope it's okay that I'm promoting another LJ community; if it's not I'd be happy to delete the post.
Do you wish you had perfect pitch? DO you know someone who does? Do you want to know more about it? Do you ever question what it's like for people who have perfect pitch, people who can pull notes out of thin air? Well, if any of these things apply to you, or you are just feeling like joining, hop on over to
and see what the fun's all about!
Hope to see you there!

Yamaha YOB-211 Oboe [08 Jun 2005|04:44pm]

Hi everyone! My name is Rachel and I'm a college student now, but from 5th grade on I spent 7 years playing oboe. In high school I also played old english handbells, chimes, in the drum pit, cymbals, and was a drum major for a year and a half. I was such a bando. Since then I've moved on in my life, and I will be studying abroad for the fall semester in Cape Town, South Africa. I am trying to raise money for my 5 months stay there, so I will be selling my Yamaha YOB-211 Oboe. These oboes originally go for around $1600-$1700, but I'll be selling mine for $600. If anyone needs an oboe or knows of someone else who would be interested (beginner student, back-up instrument, high school band supply, etc) please let me know! I will be forever grateful, and I'm sorry if you see this message more than once as I have posted it to a few communities I am in. My e-mail address is: rs2113a@american.edu. Please contact me soon! Thank you.

Hi. My name is Pam. I am 19 years old and i play clarinet in Marching Thunder at Marshall University. I am a nursing major, but i do marching band on the side. I've played clarinet since my 6th grade year, and last year, i learned alto sax in jazz band. I've grown to really like jazz in this short amount of time, and i must say, the best song i've ever played is "Channel One Suite" by Buddy Rich.

I've been a member of a local Symphonic Band for the past 2 years, but recently had to quit due to lack of time, so now, the only playing i do is during marching/football season.

Some accomplishments from High School:
4 years all-county
3 years all-area
1 year all-state
Alderson Broaddus Honor Band
Morehead Honor Band
Marshall Honor Band
4 years superior rating on solos and ensembles
4 years marching band (Spring Valley, Huntington, West Virginia)
Performing at the 2003 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans

I severely miss concert band now. I'm going back to concert band here at Marshall starting next semester, though, schedule permitting.

I feel that i have made a fairly decent introduction for myself, but if there is anything anyone would like to know, feel free to ask anything.

Hi, I'm Sanya, and I play clarinet. This post is basically to ask... does anyone, by any chance, have a copy of the first clarinet version of Puszta by Jan Van Der Roost that they can send me?

New here [27 Jan 2005|09:25pm]

Hey all. I just joined today, so here's a little about me.

I'm a 17 year old senior at Marquette Senior High School and switch off first/second chair every test we have with a girl who I'm almost exactly equal in talent with, and both of us play on the Buffet E11. I sightread a little better, but her tone makes up for it on stuff she practices. I'm also the Drum Major in our Marching Band (will be resigning and auditioning a new one in May, sad). I'm also a member of the Marquette City Band, and Peninsula Winds, both semiprofessional/professional groups in the area, as well as an active player in the pit orchestras at the Vista Theatre in a neighboring town.

ReportoireCollapse )

Yep, so there you have my playing career in a nutshell. I'm auditioning at WMU for clarinet and voice on Feb 18, and am very nervous so I'm practicing non-stop the Weber... in fact I'm going to go do that now ;-)

Hi! I'm Sanya, and I'm a sixteen year old clarinettist in my high school's wind ensemble, concert band, wind choir, and pit band for the musical. I absolutely adore playing, but I'm not like ~*great*~ or anything. I wish I could play the oboe, but I have a feeling that my embochure would just not be up for a challenge like that. Anyway, have any of you ever heard Mahler's Symphony No. 5? It's one of the most wonderful ones I've ever heard, I think, and it calls for the use of six different clarinets -- in different keys and everything! Let me know if you've ever had the experience of playing an excerpt from it.

For our English final we are doing an informative speech. Me being the big band geek that I am have been told to do it on something band or clarinet related. If I do one of those ideas I need to pick what I want the parts of speech to be on, like should I do the history of the clarinet, the clarinet family, how to play the clarinet etc.? I have to write it this weekend so does anyone have any ideas?

So yeah. I just started playing the oboe a few days ago. I'm going to playing it for this year's musical, but I'm still trying to adjust to it. Any oboe players out there? Any suggestions for beginners?
